Sciatica
Sciatica, or sciatic nerve pain, is a commonly treated condition here at Arkansas Biomechanics and Rehabilitation. This pain is commonly describes as originating in the lower back or buttock area, but also radiating down the leg. It can range from very severe pain, to mild discomfort.
Sciatic nerve pain is typically caused by compression of the sciatic nerve. Common causes of this include: misaligned vertebrae, herniated discs, spinal tumors, pregnancy or childbirth, and piriformis syndrome. Our providers will first work with you to help determine the cause of your sciatica pain – this process may include medical images such as x-rays, MRI, CT, or nerve conduction tests.
Our treatment of sciatic pain is natural and drug-free, in addition to being non-invasive. Some of the ways we may treat sciatica (personalized to your specific cause and symptoms) include: ultrasound, TENS therapy, adjustments (spinal manipulations), and even ice therapy.
It is not uncommon for chiropractors to co-manage care for patients who suffer from sciatica with other medical professionals. Our doctors have excellent relationships with physicians in the area and are happy to communicate to ensure you receive the best care possible.
