Low Level Laser Therapy

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted marketing clearance for the use of low-level laser treatment for “whole body” musculoskeletal pain. Just a few examples of musculoskeletal pain include tension headaches, neck pain, shoulder pain, low back pain, and plantar fasciitis. In addition to treatment of musculoskeletal pain, the laser has been shown to improve healing and recovery times.

Low level laser therapy or “Cold Laser” has been clinically proven to suppress inflammation, increase oxygen and blood flow, promote muscle calcium uptake, and increase neurotransmitter release. Low level laser treatments are pain-free, and you can immediately resume normal activities afterwards.

The decision to grant clearance was based on a randomized, placebo-controlled trial of more than 200 patients with this type of pain. Results showed that those who received the laser therapy without any additional treatment had a 49% reduction in pain post-treatment.

This is greater than the results from the large SPACE trial, published in JAMA in 2018. That trial showed a pain-reduction rate of 20% for opioids and 26% for non-opioids, which were mainly NSAIDs.

The laser used at Arkansas Biomechanics & Rehabilitation is the latest model utilizing the latest technology. Consultations are free! Experience the benefits of cold laser for yourself.
